In Issue 174 we featured an article about John Sheriff (aka Dr Syntax), a noted Edinburgh eccentric of the 19th century with Broughton connections. Since then, a paper by John Thomson – 'Unpublished Portraits of Sir Walter Scott' in The Century (Vol. 58, Issue 3, July 1899) – has come to light.
