ARE BISEXUALS NOT GAY ENOUGH?

'Is Lady Gaga greedy? Is Duncan James promiscuous? Is Katy Perry confused? Does bisexuality exist?'

These and other questions will be addressed on Saturday 25 September when the LGBT Centre for Health and Wellbeing hosts events for national Bi Visibility Day (1:00–4:00pm) at 9 Howe Street. Using displays, live music, poetry, a quiz, shared stories, and discussion, the organisers will explore bisexuality through pop culture, journalism, and personal experience.

Also up for discussion will be biphobia – not least in the LGBT community itself where some people regard bisexuals as 'not gay enough'.

Community Development Worker Jules Barnes said: 'This inclusive, interactive social event is the first of its kind in Edinburgh and will help to separate the truth from the fiction as we focus on bisexual people; a section of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community that generally tends to be overlooked both within the community and also by society at large.' She says there are an estimated 4.2 million bisexuals in the UK; 363,000 in Scotland; with 54,530 in the Lothians.
