CHEAP BEDS FOR YORK PLACE?

Planning permission has been sought to change offices at 34–8 York Place into a hotel.

The Cameron Guest House Group (CGHG) initially proposed knocking together the three Category A-listed town houses into a 30-bedroom guest house in September 2009 (Ref. 09/03205/FUL).

At that stage, the business proposed serving mainly cold food, so just 1 toaster and 1 microwave were to be provided for the convenience of up to 60 guests hoping to enjoy a traditional Edinburgh welcome. Hmm.

On 13 April, CGHG reapplied with a revised but not very different plan for a hotel (Ref. 10/00965/LBC).

John Knight, Planning Convenor for the New Town and Broughton Community Council, was quoted in the Herald and Post (29.4.10) expressiing an unfavourable impression of the plan. However, it is unlikely that there are sufficient material grounds for the NTBCC to object.

Mr Knight's alleged misquotation by the Herald and Post has since resulted in a very minor spat of little interest.
