DRUMMOND PLACE DISCONTENT CONTINUES

Submitted by Editor on

My partner and I live on Scotland Street, writes Susie Bell, and have been trying for some time to get a key to the Drummond Place Garden – to no avail [see Issue 215; Breaking news, 28.2.1311.3.13, 13.3.13].

The response is always that the AGM of proprietors voted a few years ago to restrict access to Drummond Place residents only. Interestingly, the person who replied to our first letter with this response actually lived on a lane off Scotland Street.

We have requested to be added to a waiting list, but are always told that there are too many people already waiting. This seems incredible considering we very rarely see anyone in it.

The private gardens in the New Town were originally built to provide outdoor space for all those who lived in the area, and it's really disheartening that the members of the 'AGM' have chosen to take this away from their neighbours.

I'm sure most people in the surrounding streets would be more than willing to also contribute to the upkeep of the Garden, thus lowering the cost for the Drummond Place residents and in turn fostering a sense of community and neighbourliness.

they are resilient to share their petit bourgeois values. Good old New Town.

  1. Interesting saga- Drummond Gardens - private terrain being kept empty by a clique? has the story

Arthur Duncan all these Gardens should be reclaimed. So rarely see them used.

To all envious residents in Broughton,

Use the green spaces you can access. I don't have a car. Can I use yours if I help pay for the upkeep? Get real.
