LIFT-OFF FOR PASSION ON THE CORNER

Submitted by Editor on

The fifth annual Postcard exhibition in association with the NHS Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival 2015 has begun, write our friends at the Gallery on the Corner

Over 100 people attended to witness the unveiling of 280+ works donated by artists near and far. Spurtle picked favourites to show here (details at foot of page).

One artist said:‘ Contributing to this exhibition is important to me as I applaud the Gallery’s aims, which are unique, positive and outward thinking’.

This year’s national theme – passion – as set by SMHAFF, went down a storm with the many creators who transformed the standard MDF postcard-size board into magical varieties of collage, painting, photography and even sculpture.

The result is an impressive installation of highly individual works that admirably support the festival’s aims of raising awareness about mental health.

‘Mental illness is not often spoken about and can be difficult to come to terms with, understand or even explain. This show is important because I believe that sufferers deserve our support’,  commented one Gallery visitor.

Postcards From … continues at the Gallery on the Corner (34 Northumberland Street) until 30 October. Each postcard is on sale for £15 with proceeds going to support the work here to support artists affected by mental health conditions.
