Leith Walk councillor Louise Lang has announced that she will not seek re-election in May next year.

The decision has been prompted by the birth of daughter Ailsa in September, and the additional demands of juggling professional and family life. She will continue to serve as a Liberal-Democrat councillor until the end of her term in April 2012.

'I have been honoured to represent residents of the Leith Walk ward for the last 4½ years,' she says. 'I love the sense of local pride that exists, and have met so many dedicated people in the community.

'When my daughter is older, I hope that I might have the opportunity to return to being a local councillor.'

Ms Lang was elected for Ward 12 in 2007, when she received 2,170 first preference votes (19.3%).
