NO NEWS LIKE SNOW NEWS

When the first (and probably last) snow of 2017 fell on Broughton this morning, Spurtle – with all the grace of a hippopotamus in high heels – went up Calton Hill to meet it.

A good 5mm had settled by lunchtime, hardly enough to excite winter purists but just enough to dust the Observatory’s dome.

Snow had drawn people to the Hill from all over the capital …

and, as often happens, brought strangers together in conversation.

Spurtle thought about talking to this little person, but something about her gave us the creeps.

Instead, we focused on distant views towards Salisbury Crags …

across to the Old Town …

and beyond.

Closer to home,  Event organisers slipped into some colourful vernacular as they considered the best and safest way to dig themselves out of a hole.

Others had time to simply stand and stare. But with temperatures set to rise and winds to increase over the weekend, they may not be there for long. We enjoyed their visit.
