PLANNING UPDATE (8.5.12)

Submitted by Editor on

Genting UK has been granted permission to infill a non-original hexagonal void in its Maxim's Casino premises at 5B York Place (Ref. 12/00670/LBC). The change is part of a substantial internal refurbishment which is all in the best possible taste.

-----

Permission has been granted for a change of use at 28 Greenside Row from Class II nightclub to Class 3 food and drink at The Theme (Ref. 12/00857/FUL). A condition was that a ventilation system capable of 30 changes of air per hour should be in place with 'cooking effluvia' ducted to rooftop level to safeguard neighbouring residents' amenity.

-----

A property at 164 Dundas Street which changed from residential to commercial use in 2003 changed back again on 14 January, and the owner now seeks retrospective permission (Ref. 12/01450/FUL). 'The building has maintained its shape and placement of rooms throughout the transition from residential to commercial and the re-instatement of its residential state will incur no changes.'

-----

An ingenious plan has been submitted to convert the upper part of a shop at 14 Elm Row into two flats (Refs 12/01545/FUL; 12/01546/LBC). Two new windows and a balustrade at first-floor level would be created. The elevations above the former Blacks outlet and Johnson's the Cleaners adjacent would, in our opinion, be improved by the changes.
