YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED – IMPORTANT DINGS TO REMEMBER

Submitted by Editor on

Tram testing and driver training during daylight hours in the city centre will increase markedly between now and the service launch date in May.

In an effort to prevent grateful citizens being squashed, the Council and Transport for Edinburgh today issued some online safety videos and tips which you can access here

Drivers should avoid stopping on tram tracks – 'give trams space, they can’t swerve to avoid you'.

Suggestions for pedestrians include looking around – 'trams are quiet, you may not hear them until they are very close'.

Pedestrians are also advised to 'Listen for the bell', which is helpfully described as going 'ding'.

Everyone is warned that tracks will be slippery in wet conditions. Cyclists are told to 'Know your limits – depending on the situation and your cycling experience, you may prefer to get off your bike at a safe point on the road to continue your journey.'

Edinburgh Trams Director & General Manager Tom Norris said:

'Our team have been training extremely hard and we're now ready to move into a phase where many more trams start to run along the route. Safety is our first priority and our drivers are all fully aware that other road users need time to get used to interacting with the new trams. Our main message is that trams are big and quiet so give them space, look before you cross the road and listen for the bell'.
