CELEBRATION OF ACHIEVEMENT

DRUMMOND REFLECTS ON AN AMAZING YEAR

Every June, Drummond Community High School holds an annual Celebration of Achievement.

Last week’s event brought together award-winning students from all years, plus emotional school leavers and their parents … of whom I was one, writes David Sterratt.

In her speech (see pdf at foot of page), headteacher Jodie Hannan (right) invoked Dr Seuss: When you stop and look around, this [school] is pretty amazing.’

SUTTON TRUST SUCCESS FOR DRUMMOND STUDENTS

Katherine Dempsie and Peter Wright, both in S5 at Drummond CHS, have been successful in their application to The Sutton Trust’s prestigious summer US school programme 2017, writes Kirsten Dickson

The Sutton Trust  (ST) aims to tackle inequality and social mobility through education, and Peter and Katherine are the only students from Edinburgh who have made it through the rigorous selection process to the final 150 pupils out of the original 1,000 applicants for this fully funded programme.

DRUMMOND CHS OPENS ITS DOORS

Drummond Community High School will hold its Open Evening later this week on Thursday 10 November.

It’s a great opportunity for prospective learners, parents, carers (and the odd interested local) to wander in, get a feel for the place, and find out about the opportunities they have to offer.

New head teacher Jodie Hannan told the Spurtle:

Since I took up post in June 2016 I have been impressed every day with the students’ positive attitude and commitment to learning.

DRUMMOND MATHEMATICIANS TOP AGAIN

Drummond students have achieved a second consecutive victory in the Enterprising Maths in the Lothians competition.

Benjamin Sterratt (S4, pictured left) Daniel Farrow (S3), Mhairi Dickie (S4) and Sara Leszczynska (S3, pictured right) tackled a variety of mathematical puzzles and problems to beat off competition from 26 teams from across Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian.

NEW HEAD FOR DRUMMOND CHS

David Sterratt, Chair of Drummond Parent Council, writes:

On Monday 29th May, Jodie Hannan joined Drummond Community High School as Headteacher. She has taken over from acting Headteacher Sue Cook, who had been seconded from Leith Academy since August 2014.

Jodie was a Depute Head at Dunfermline High School for almost five years, where she was Head of House for 400 of Dunfermline’s 1,550 pupils.
