ANTI-TRUMP PROTEST TOMORROW

Submitted by Editor on

 SLOW GOING LIKELY

Expect traffic delays tomorrow as an anti-Trump protest passes through the city centre at lunchtime.

An unspecified number of people will take an unknown amount of time to process from Horse's Wynd to the Meadows, starting at noon.

The march will travel alongside Holyrood, up Abbeyhill and  Abbeymount, past the US Consulate to Waterloo Place, across the Bridges, right down West Nicholson Street, then on to the Meadows via Chapel and Buccleuch Streets. A playful 'Carnival of Resistance' will follow.

'Not welcome'

Organisers Scotland United Against Trump (SUAT) say the US President's policies are not welcome here:

We will not just be opposing Trump’s racism, but showing solidarity with all the people and group he’s attacking. We need to send a message to Theresa May and politicians across Europe – including here in Scotland – that we won’t stand for their attacks on migrants and Muslims. Trump is bad enough – but we can’t let opportunist and racist politicians here take inspiration from him.

SUAT is an umbrella group supported by a range of political and social organisations including Amnesty International, Muslim Council of Scotland, Scottish Green Party, Scottish Labour Party, Scottish Liberal Democrats, Scottish TUC, Socialist Workers Party, Stand up to Racism, and the Women's League of Peace and Freedom.

President Trump is not expected to visit Broughton during his weekend North of the Border. For previous local coverage of The Donald, visit our Facebook page here.
