BONNIE AND CLYDE

Submitted by Editor on

As Commonwealth Games volunteers gathered at Glasgow for a major induction event on Friday and Saturday, there appeared this cheerful chap in the rosebed at Bellevue Place.

As his label helpfully explains, he is Clyde – or at least a home-grown version of Clyde – the Games’ official mascot. The event will run from 23 July to 3 August.

He appears to have been cobbled together or rather lovingly fashioned from an old chimney pot, pudding basin, Domestos cap, stockings and a purple bunnet knitted during a tornado. We suspect he is the work of Mrs Christina Thomson, resident beautifier of this spot.

Wandering through the shot below is another local, David Watt. Until recently a Spurtle delivery boy, Mr Watt’s own preparations for the Commonwealth Games have been disrupted by a knee operation.

He was, he assured our photographer, to have represented Scotland in the Dominoes Team.
