In Issue 223 (‘Accident “Blackspots”, Tabloids and Statistics’, p.1), we referred to a chart compiled by Transport officials at City of Edinburgh Council. It shows accidents involving 5–15-year olds near St Mary’s RC Primary School between 2006 and 2011.
We had no room for it in the printed edition, but reproduce it here for readers’ interest. Council officials share Spurtle's misgivings about how useful such statistics are and what conclusions can be drawn from them. See pdf below.
