CONMAN PROVES PC CLOD

Submitted by Editor on

A suspected conman phoned an Albany Street firm of solicitors at 10:00am on Wednesday 9 February. He claimed to represent 'Midlothian Police' and said he was collecting donations which would go to a local children's charity.

Staff challenged the man's bona fides before the call ended, and refused to part with any money.

'This male claimed to be a member of our staff,' said a Lothian and Borders Police spokesman later. 'Fortunately those within the solicitors office were not taken in by his ruse.'

Police are now warning businesses and residents to beware of similar scams and to report them if they arise.

'Police officers, whether they are on or off-duty, carry their warrant cards and will be happy to produce them if requested.'
