On Saturday, 26 and Sunday, 27 September, The Cockburn Association will host the Edinburgh and East Lothian Doors Open Days weekend.
Doors Open Days is a free festival offering access to spaces of historic, cultural, architectural and community interest which are normally ticketed or not accessible to the public.
As Scotland's oldest conservation charity, The Cockburn feels particularly energised by this year’s theme of ‘Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine’.
In recent years, the group has identified key concerns about the erosion of permanent housing stock in Edinburgh, the cumulative community impact of visitor accommodation and student housing, overtourism and commercial pressures on public spaces, and the unnecessary demolition of buildings (and release of their embedded carbon) rather than sensitive adaptation/reuse.
Of the 120 venues participating in the Edinburgh and East Lothian Doors Open Days, 11 have the good fortune to be in Spurtleshire. See list below and click here for details.
