Following high-profile controversies in Westminster last month, Spurtle decided to check closer to home on what our politicians earn outwith the forums to which they were elected.

The following summaries have been compiled on the basis of publicly accessible records in the public domain.

We found nothing that gave us serious cause for concern.

FOYSOL CHOUDHURY, MSP, LOTHIANS:—Owns shares in 2 licensed restaurants (combined value of £26,000).

ALISON JOHNSTONE, MSP, LOTHIANS:—Owns 1 share (worth £250) in Harlaw Hydro, a community hydropower scheme near Edinburgh. This not greater than 1% of the share capital’s total value.

BEN MACPHERSON, MSP, EDINBURGH NORTHERN & LEITH:—Feb 2007 accepted 2 tickets for Scotland v Ireland at Murrayfield as guest of BT Scotland: combined value £1390 + VAT.

ANGUS ROBERTSON, MSP, EDINBURGH CENTRAL:—Managing Director (inactive since election) of Progress Scotland Ltd and ASCR Ltd. Anticipates outstanding payments of £501–1,000 and £3,001–5,000).

LORNA SLATER, MSP, LOTHIANS:—Until June 2021, 3 days per month as Engineering Project Manager with Oribital Marine Power (£60,001–65,000 p.a).
