The Braewell Gallery’s summer exhibition has work by Alexandra Gardner, Fraser Crawford, Jock MacInnes, Ally Thompson, Scott McGregor, Vicky Mount, Emillio Fazzi, Valentine Petrov, Joe O'Brien, Richard Woods, Laetitia Guilbaud and Elaine Spears. McGregor’s Cheers in Café Royale is shown right. It runs until the end of Aug. at 106 Dundas St.

Work by Richard Demarco and long-time collaborator Joseph Beuys (below right) will feature at Axolotl Gallery from 5 Aug–5 Sept. (35 Dundas St).

At The Gallery on the Corner, ‘Now is Not Forever’ will feature limited edition prints by Little E. It runs from 5 Aug.–3 Sept. at 34 Northumberland St.

An exhibition of Andrea Geile’s sculpture in New Town basements – ‘Subterranea’ – will continue until 28 Aug. Readers may remember Ross Maclean’s review of her ‘petrified forest’ on London Street in August 2009 (Issue 173). Old Russian icons will be on display and for sale at Rufus Reade Art (private house at 40 Pilrig Street) from 2–14 August. 'Subjects include the Virgin Mary, St George and the Dragon, and scenes from the life of Christ and the prophets'.

Whitespace at 11 Gayfield Square will host John Hail's Memories of You, an installation of drones and looped sounds, with live music and DJing. It will apparently evolve between 5 and 19 August, becoming 'a living memory of the exhibit'. Hmm.

A 'dreamlike and evocative exhibition' is promised at McNaughtan's Bookshop (3a–4a Haddington Place) where 'Mothers and Daughters' will feature work by 4 related women: Elizabeth Shepherd, Katy McKidd, Roo McKidd and Thea Stevenson (9–20 Aug.). Later (from 23 Aug.–3 Sept.), graphic work by the Borders artist and writer Angela Lemaire will be on show under the title 'Text and Image'.[img_assist|nid=1978|title=|desc=|link=node|align=right|width=185|height=200]

‘Lineage’ at the Edinburgh Printmakers Workshop on Union Street will include new and recent editions by ‘internationally celebrated’ artists Michael Craig-Martin, Ian Davenport (see Etched Puddles 30, right) and Julian Opie (4 Aug.–4 Sept.). New paintings by Philip Braham will show in ‘STILL.’ at the Union Gallery (45 Broughton St) from 5 Aug.–5 Sept. This important exhibition was previewed online at Breaking news (3.6.11). Braham’s haunted The Clearing is shown below.
