Spurtle photographed a weathered fairy hanging in the rowan tree on Bellevue Place a few days ago, and returned this evening, just as night fell and the Moon rose.
The tree, Christmas decoration, fatballs for birds, and much of the surrounding planting – including winter roses in bloom – are the work of local resident Christina Thomson (Breaking news, 1.8.13).
Her tireless guerrilla gardening now has the blessing of the Council, whose rather less original version (introduced to relieve an otherwise barren expanse of paving) died as soon as it decently could.
Such is the extent of unofficial official approval that officials are alleged to drive Britain in Bloom judges past it at slow speed each year during the competition season.
The little oasis is a delight in summer, and seems also to please local school kids who, for the most part, have left it to flourish unmolested.
