HOLIDAY FEVER

Submitted by Editor on

'Holiday' is a term that exists in every man's mind, writes Felix Kimathi, a former pupil at Drummond CHS's partner Muthambi Boys' School in Kenya. Many dream of a day when they will celebrate it in the best place ever.

In Kenya there are many national holidays, but Easter and especially Christmas are the most treasured. They are celebrated by many, depending on people's level of understanding, culture (if, for example their family follows a particular religious festival) and financial means. Musicians take their position in entertaining. People leave their places of work and visit relatives; and due to the numbers travelling, fares triple. Accidents become rampant among those who over-celebrate by taking beer excessively.

My family collect during these holidays. We eat together, conduct a family-come-together dialogue, and take photos to mark the day.

There are many holiday resorts for Kenyans but the favourite ones are shared with foreigners. At this time of year, most Kenyan schools and citizens will tour in Mombasa, which is the best.

My trip to the UK in 2011 was the best holiday I have ever had in my life, and so I dream that one day I will again spend time there or in some place in Europe or America.
