MORE WIND AND RAIN FORECAST

Submitted by Editor on

Broughton has so far got off lightly in the recent inclement weather. Storm Desmond passed without major flooding.

The Water of Leith Conservation Trust reports that river levels peaked at noon on Sunday, with nearly 1.8m measured at the Murrayfield gauging station.

When the river flooded in April 2000, the equivalent measure was over 3m.

More to come

But don't put your wellies away just yet. With 20–40mm of rain expected widely across high ground, the Met Office has today issued a yellow warning of rain:

Further rainfall is expected to arrive across much of Scotland and northern England during Wednesday afternoon and evening.  The rain will become persistent and heavy at times, mainly over high ground, before clearing to the southeast overnight Wednesday and into early Thursday.

Some very strong winds are also likely in association with this system for which a separate warning has been issued. This could prove a further hazard.

Be aware of the potential for further disruption from flooding and to transport. This warning has been updated to extend it over a larger area of southern Scotland where surface water could cause localised disruption on the roads during Wednesday evening's rush hour.

Gales with gusts of 50–70mph in exposed locations are possible later today. The yellow warning of wind reads:

Southwesterly winds will increase on Wednesday afternoon across parts of northern England and southern and central Scotland, with gales developing widely, locally severe. The gales are expected to last through the afternoon and evening but should ease by the early hours of Thursday.

Be aware that some low level disruption looks likely along with difficult driving conditions with the combination of rain and strong winds.

This warning has been updated to include more of southern and eastern Scotland.

.@theSpurtle but seemingly this is *not* a storm. Only nameless patch of seasonal low pressure. Not sure I can tell the difference right now

John Hein Forecast? It's bloody arrived. Nearly got blown off my motorbike on the way back from Musselburgh!
