NO ESCAPE AROUND THE CORNER

Submitted by Editor on

Spurtle loved this lino cut when we called in at the Gallery on the Corner this morning.

It's called 'Hunter', is by the very talented Alice Shaw, and forms part of a 16-artist joint Winter Print Show which previews this afternoon and will run until 23 December.

There was an excited buzz about the gallery today, as there is before any launch, but also a trace of sadness.

After five years, this particular social enterprise in the Autism Ventures Scotland stable has fallen victim to the Recession and will close at the end of the month.

The loss of this bright, friendly and creative space with a real sense of purpose will be keenly felt by the many artists, trainees and customers who have grown to love its contribution to the area.

It's a testament to the dedicated staff there that the £600 raised from an auction of their own work earlier this week will be donated to preserving and celebrating the Gallery's legacy in future, perhaps through the creation of a website.

We wish all of them the very best in whatever they do next.
