RAISING FUNDS FOR MARIE CURIE CANCER CARE

Submitted by Editor on

Many readers will remember Axolotl Gallery, whose exciting Dundas Street exhibitions were regularly reviewed by the Spurtle until the gallery's recent closure.

Fewer, perhaps, will be aware that Axolotl's founder Derek Butter died in September after a long struggle against stomach cancer.

Butter's wife Sarah Wilson is now selling a painting – 'Fallen' by Edinburgh-based figurative artist Alan McGowan, right – which the couple bought together from an Axolotl show. The work will go to the highest private bidder, with funds raised being donated directly to Marie Curie Cancer Care whose nurses cared for Butter towards the end.

The painting has deliberately been offered well below its previous purchase price of £4,500, and the highest offer currently stands at £2,000. You have until 5 November to submit a better bid, secure a bargain, and benefit a very good cause to boot. Send bids to: enquiries@axolotl.co.uk
