ROYAL MAIL STANDS ITS GROUND ON CLOSURES

Submitted by Editor on

Last month we reported John Hein's campaign to retain late-posting and franked mail services on Brunswick Road (Breaking news 26.10.10).

Leith Walk ward Councillor Lang was one of several local politicians to take up Hein's case, and has now received a reply from Julie Morrison, Royal Mail's Head of External Relations (see pdf below).

At this stage, Royal Mail aren't budging. They say there are adequate alternatives nearby, and that local demand does not merit a new franked mail box. They helpfully point out that business customers can also pay for a collection from their premises 'which cuts out the need to visit a post box or post office branch'.

Spurtle suspects this response is unlikely to satisfy. We will return to the story with reaction as we get it.
