The deadline for nominations as Community Councillors is at 4pm on Monday 23 September. Nomination forms are available here .
Rest assured, there is very little chance that those putting themselves forward will have to stand in a formal election as – sadly too few people can be bothered to stand and make a difference on this first rung of the democratic ladder.
If you can’t make Monday’s deadline, you can still be coopted onto the Community Council at a later date.

Scottish Country Dance lessons start at 7.30pm on 1 October at Broughton St Mary’s Parish Church (entry round the back), Bellevue Crescent. Indomitable Wikimedian and local man in black Brian McNeil draws all locals’ attention to the Wiki Loves Monuments competition – a photo contest based around cultural heritage – which runs this month. ‘Edinburgh is chock-full of monuments,’ he reminds us, ‘which would all be eligible if well photographed.’

Edinburgh North and Leith Labour MP, Mark Lazarowicz, will hold extra surgeries for his constituents on the 2nd Saturday of every month (except holidays) at 10am in Royston/Wardieburn Community Centre, Pilton Drive North. This is in addition to his weekly Friday surgeries at Stockbridge Library (4pm) and his Leith Walk office (5.15 pm). No appointment is needed for these surgeries. Occasional surgeries are also available at other times and locations by appointment.
