SAY 'HI' TO NEW LOW: LOCAL CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE ANNOUNCED

Submitted by Editor on

A new Scottish Conservative candidate has been announced for the Edinburgh Northern and Leith consituency: Sheila Low.

Spurtle understands she is an Aberdeen University Law graduate and North Queensferry resident, who stood in last year's General Election for Glenrothes.

Ms Low has been a Director in Edinburgh for the accountancy and business advice firm Baker Tilly since 2008, but her career has spanned investment management, venture capitalism, self-employment and corporate finance.

She is also a non-executive Director of the charity Turning Point Scotland, a recent governor of her former school Loretto, and Chair of the Lorettonian Society.

In May last year, she came fourth in Glenrothes, polling 2,922 votes in a safe Labour seat behind sitting MP Lindsay Roy, the second-placed SNP, and third-placed Lib-Dems.

Ms Low's candidacy follows the unexpected withdrawal of Jamie Halcro-Johnston, who left in search of the Orkneys (see Breaking news 5.3.11). She has been invited to attend the Spurtle hustings on 23 March.
