STAR-STUDDED CAST ELUDES SPURTLE

Submitted by Editor on

A new adaptation of Joseph Conrad's 1907 novel The Secret Agent was being filmed on Broughton Place and outside the Barony Bar on Broughton Street today.

The three-part drama by World Productions for BBC One is scheduled for release in 2016. The story is set in the London of 1886. Soho shopkeeper Verloc is employed by the Russian government to bomb the Greenwich Observatory.

The cast includes Vicky McClure, Toby Jones, Paul Ellard and Charlie Hamblett, none of whom of we'd ever heard of before or was anywhere to be seen.

Director Charles McDougall has some 37 titles under his belt, including most recently episodes of Secrets and Lives and Resurrection, and the TV Movie Mad Dogs.

The script is by Tony Marchant, who won a BAFTA TV award for Best Single Drama in 2008 with The Mark of Cain.

Mostly, the process of television-making seems to entail endless mobile-phone conversations and a lot of sitting about looking bored, self-conscious, or as though you've written an important list and can't remember which pocket you've put it in.

The only actors we caught a glimpse of were these. Does anyone recognise them?
