The Water of Leith Conservation Trust (WLCT) has won £10,000 as part of Clydesdale Bank's Spirit of the Community Awards.
The awards recognise charities and not-for-profit organisations 'which are going the extra mile'. Or in this case, the extra 22 miles.
WLCT will use the money to support its community and volunteer development programme, targeting new groups and extending current partnerships.
The funds will pay for more Community and Volunteer Officer hours (probably two more days per week), additional equipment such as litter picks and a camera, production of a volunteer guidance pack and staff training costs.
Helen Brown, Trust Manager at WLCT, said: 'As a small charity, this kind of investment in our work and that of our volunteers means an enormous amount. We work to keep Edinburgh's river clean, green and full of wildlife.
‘Thank you to Clydesdale Bank for recognising our work and choosing to support us.'
In the Bonnington to Stockbridge part of the river, WLCT's attentions are currently focused on engaging disadvantaged sections of the community. They're actively seeking community organisations which represent young and older people, minorities and groups with mental or physical disabilities. If you belong to or run such a group, WLCT would love you to get in touch.
