WHITEN BRIGHTENS WINDY WALL

Submitted by Editor on

Hard at work and battling the elements on Dalmeny Street this morning was artist Kirsty Whiten

She was putting the finishing touches to her public mural (between Buchanan Street and Out of the Blue), which forms part of an exhibition for LeithLate15.

Whiten’s mural has been turning heads these past couple of days, but in a good way. Locals have been delighted that a dull wall has been brightened up, and feedback has been extremely positive.

One local thought that the monkey head could have looked a bit happier, but I expect we’d all look like that if we were depicted in public with no trousers on. The mural is certainly eye-catching and, when complete, will be a welcome addition to the area.

LeithLate has expanded this year and will run for four months from June–September. It promises to be bigger than ever and will include gigs, open studio events, parties, art exhibitions and new shutter and mural projects.

Kirsty Whiten’s WRONGER RITES: The Quing of the Now Peoples exhibition runs from 13–24 June 2015 at Whitespace Gallery (11 Gayfield Square). Open Tuesday–Saturday, 12pm–6pm; 12pm– 4pm Sunday (closed Mondays).
