BROUGHTON IN BLOOM

Submitted by Editor on

For a downhill peregrination across Broughton in Bloom, Ross Maclean – himself no mean gardener – recommends the following itinerary.

1. Start at the corner of Albany and Broughton Streets, and admire the fine mini-garden created and tended by a retired employee of Simpson & Marwick.

Sit on the wall and observe the butterflies and bees, too!

2. Move along and then look up at the delicious cornucopia of plants on the roof of Mr Akram’s emporium next to Vino Wines – the composition of two gentleman residents at No. 32.

3. Next, pause in amazement at Colin Turnbull ’s celebrated garden of delights at Café Nom de Plume.

4. Now proceed to Bellevue Place and marvel at Christina Thomson’s sumptuous all-seasons street garden. The felicities of (3) and (4), year on year, are too prodigal to mention.

5. Travel on beneath Bellevue Crescent's floral arch to ...

6. Mr Watt’s long desired and CEC’s highly desirable oasis in Rodney Street (see Issue 232). Next stop, the Botanics.

Apart from Rodney Street, these gems are the creation of very special, inspired indivduals who care about our environment and community. We salute them, Floreat Broughtonia!
