CONGESTION FEARS SPUR NEW TRAM PLAN FOR YORK PLACE

Submitted by Editor on

In Breaking news (6.9.11) we reported the New Town and Broughton Community Council’s serious misgivings about line-switching for the trams on York Place. They predicted congestion and displaced traffic.

The NTBCC has since learned that Council tram planners believe they can complete the spur beyond St Andrew Square with a line-switch and tram stop at the eastern end of York Place. Somehow, they propose doing this without  increasing the overall tram footprint, so allowing two lanes to remain open in both directions for wheeled vehicles.

Council officials have been invited to bring detailed proposals to the NTBCC meeting on 7 November.
