DRUMMOND STUDENTS IN THE COMMUNITY

Nine senior students and two members of staff at Drummond Community High School are busy planning, organising, fundraising for and delivering activities in two Edinburgh care homes for older people: Porthaven and Marionville.

Scheduled between now and December are 'Scottish Extravaganzas', Halloween Parties, Keep Fit sessions, and Christmas Parties. The students are raising the money for all this themselves, having so far collected over £500 through a range of baking sales, 'dress-down day' sponsorship and supermarket bag-packing.

Also planned is sponsored leg waxing for male pupils and teachers, whom Spurtle advises to run now while they still can.

All this comes as one part of Drummond CHS's admirable Wider Achievement Opportunity (WAO) scheme, now in its second year. Senior pupils are encouraged to contribute to and learn from environments outwith the conventional school-based curriculum.

The WAO Activities Group comprise: Amna Shafqat, Josh Duffy, Erin Quinn, Nikki Mason, Alice Conacher, Natasha Morris, Khaleeq Ahmad, Victoria Marshall, Mariana Duarte, Ms Lambert and Ms Moore.
