In the run-up to Halloween, we present some more or less unsettling images of life in the capital.
This image of a cù-sith (or 'fairy dog') was captured in the basement of a Broughton Street property in December 2007.
The photographer, a local historian who had entered the space in search of foundations for the old Tollbooth building, recounts that the apparition moved hardly at all, made no sound and disappeared after only a few seconds.
However, its foetid breath lingered in the air afterwards, smelling of drains.
Warning: The evidence of this eyewitness has not been authenticated by scientists.
