FEAST IN THE FUMES

Submitted by Editor on

E.C.F. Omni S.A.R.L., owners of the OMNi Centre, have applied to install 3 temporary food kiosks and a temporary coffee cart outside the south-west end of the building, facing Picardy Place (25/06189/FUL).

The proposal would also involve 3 new areas of timber benching with granite planters. These would be positioned on space created in part by levelling the steps.

The kiosks themselves do not reduce the width of the pavement. However, locals Spurtle has spoken to say any associated queues could obstruct the footway, particularly at its narrowest point. They also suggest the seating might result in additional noise and anti-social behaviour at night.

Others still question the merits of introducing temporary structures and wooden seats to the main elevation of a carefully planned and approved building (00/03345/FUL) on a prominent site in a Conservation Area. They also point out that while the kiosks may be 'temporary' structures, there is no indication in the application of how permanently they will be in position.

Spurtle wonders whether applications for additional signage, temporary umbrellas and outdoor heaters may follow in due course.

Comments for or against the plans can be made here by 6 January 2026.
