Kevin Lang – the Liberal-Democrat, second-placed candidate for Edinburgh North and Leith – told Spurtle:
'I am of course disappointed not to have won this time round.
'Nevertheless, we fought an excellent campaign and were rewarded with the best ever result for the Liberal Democrats in Edinburgh North & Leith, with our highest ever share of the vote and the highest ever number of votes.
'It is clear that we are the party that is really moving forward here.'
