Scottish Gas has recently opened its 2014/2015 Warm Home Discount scheme and other large and small energy suppliers will be following suit soon.
Mark Lazarowicz MP (Edinburgh North & Leith) is urging his constituents to apply, particularly pensioners – many of whom find energy bills extremely costly. He is distributing relevant information as widely as possible, and we have used his helpful factsheet for this report.
Automatically eligible are any customers who receive Pension Credit Guarantee or Pension Credit Guarantee and Savings. They don’t have to do anything to get their £140 rebate on electricity bills under this UK Government scheme.
Other eligible people have to take the initiative and apply. Details vary between companies, but for Scottish Gas the rebate is also open to those who are:
receiving Pension Credit- receiving means-tested benefits including disabled child premium, disability premium, pensioner premium
- on a low income (below £16,010) with a household member who needs extra help such as a child under 5, or who is a pensioner, or has a chronic illness, or spends more than 10% of their income on energy.
Cold Weather and Winter Fuel payments are not affected for those receiving the rebate.
For more information, or to apply, contact Scottish Gas Home Energy Care team (for credit customers) on Tel. 0800 072 8625 or the Here to Help team (for customers with pre-payment meters) on Tel. 0800 294 8604. For online applications, visit here. britishgaswarmhomediscount.com
