Whilst most of us will have welcomed today’s early drenching, spare a thought for the owner of this 3-wheeled curiosity spotted on Cochran Terrace.
Half car, half tubo, it’s a 620 cc Pembleton Super SP and – contrary to its antique appearance – was assembled from kit as recently as 2014.
We think it’s the same vehicle advertised for sale in Southampton earlier this summer, but it's certainly the same one lovingly recorded here 2 years ago.
Its stripped down, hand-crafted charm is in stark contrast to the Barbarians, Wranglers, Raptors and other bloated Viagra-wagons strutting the setts elsewhere in Broughton at the moment.
Designer Phil Gregory’s motoring background included being a former National Hill Climb Champion, but the inspiration for this model came in 1999 when he realised cycle-cars could travel for free on the Holyhead–Dún Laoghaire ferry.
There are currently around 500 Pembletons on the road, although since 2018 modernised versions have been assembled at the company’s HQ in Bayton, Worcestershire.
