Local athlete Kimberley Reed has enjoyed a return to top form in the run-up to next weekend's Commonwealth Youth Games, writes father Scott.

On 27 August she was competing for Team East in Wishaw at the Scottish U-18 Inter Regional Championships. She helped them to a convincing win with a double in Hammer and Discus. Her hammer throw of 52.85m won Gold by over 12m, and her last throw in the discus (33.41m) was ahead by over 3m. These were good performances, taking account of the cold, wet weather and the slippery surface of the circle.

Yesterday, in Sheffield, Kimberley won the Hammer at the UK School Games with an outstanding throw of 55.00m, beating the previous Championship Best Performance held by current UK Senior Women’s No. 1 Sophie Hitchon. Kimberley again won by over 10m.

Kimberley's performance means that she has completed a clean sweep, or 'Grand Slam', of British domestic titles at U-17 and U-18 level.

Next will be the Commonwealth Youth Games on the Isle of Man. On Sunday 11 September she will go head to head with archrival and World U-18 Champion Louisa James (England), as well as top Australian and Canadian throwers Mikayla Genge and Aslanna Covington.
