Edinburgh Council’s Transport & Environment Cmte on 8 December unanimously agreed to stiffen enforcement protocols as part of a first-draft Parking Action Plan appearing early in February 2023.

The new measures will:

  • reduce the threshold for persistent evaders to 3 or more outstanding parking tickets for which statutory notices have been issued to the registered keeper of the vehicle
  • reduce the threshold for persistent offenders to five or more parking tickets received within the previous 3 months
  • remove the requirement to provide any observation period for vehicles parking on and obstructing footways and/or cycleways.

An additional 3 mobile parking attendants will be deployed each day. Full report HERE.

Meanwhile, locals are calling on MSPs to hasten implementation of new legislation which will address the problem of pavement parking permanently Issue 324, p.1.
