New proposals ring alarm bells

 

They’ve been a long time coming, but new plans for elements of the 2.4 ha New Town Quarter site between Dundas St and King George V Park have finally appeared.

 

Leith Central Community Council alleges muddled details, murky daylight and ill effects on local community

Leith Central Community Council has joined 76 other objectors in opposing Unite Group PLC’s application to build a 5-storey extension to the side of Shrub Hill House at 8 Middlefield (24/02439/FUL). The proposal would create 20 studio flats with en suites for students. There was one message of support.

Leith Central Community Council opposes plans to convert the  bingo hall at 26 Manderston Street into purpose-built student accommodation (24/01162/FUL).

Councillors on the Development Management Sub-Committee today unanimously rejected officials’ recommendations and turned down applications to build 3–5-storey purpose built student accommodation on Eyre Place/Eyre Place Lane, providing 139 studio units and amenity space (23/04048/FUL); and seven adjacent townhouses (23/0404766/FUL).

London-based HUB Residential Ltd’s application to develop 73-bedroom purpose-built student accommodation at 26 Dunedin St (23/05027/FUL) has been refused. We first reported the case here.

Dunedin Street (Edinburgh) LLP proposes to build new purpose-built student accommodation with associated amenity space, cycle parking, landscaping and infrastructure on the site of a large modern garage and yard at 26 Dunedin Street (23/05027/FUL).

The plan is for 73 studio apartments across 6 storeys.

A Reporter acting for Scottish Ministers has refused planning permission for a proposed development on the former Jewson’s site at 72–4 Eyre Place.

FIRST THOUGHTS

As first predicted in March (Issue 326, p.2), Danehurst Developments Ltd have submitted a planning application for purpose-built student accommodation at 22, 24–36 Dunedin St (23/02154/FUL).

NO HEARING, NO PUBLIC PLATFORM FOR LOCAL VOICES

CA Europe Operating Company has taken its applications for town houses and student housing at 72–4 Eyre Place direct to the Scottish Government (22/03833/FUL; 22/03834/FUL).

The Development Management Sub-Committee hearing agreed on 11 January will not now take place.
