Drummond Community High School’s Head-Teacher has issued the following communication to parents and carers.

School security

You may recall our previous communication on 2 December 2024 regarding school security and access to the playground out-of-hours.  As we move into lighter nights and better weather, we have been working in partnership with colleagues from the CEC Health and Safety team, Amey and the Edinburgh Schools Partnership to review public access to the school grounds.

WHAT COULD WE DO WITH PICARDY PLACE?

Now that public consultation on the future of the Picardy Place island seems to be indefinitely stalled, Leith ward's Cllr Gordon Munro floats an exciting idea that could transform the area for years to come.

On the basis that knowledge is wonderful but imagination is even better, Spurtle wants to kick-start a conversation. Let us know what you think of Munro's idea, or describe an alternative.

If hospitality firms reopen as planned on 26 April, Edinburgh Council will help them by waiving fees for outdoor area occupation permits and making additional space available in a largely pedestrianised area between Charlotte Square and Frederick Street.

The Scottish Government’s restricted hours for hospitality mean that up to 6 adults from 3 households will be able to be served alcohol until 10pm, and/or food without alcohol indoors until 8pm. Council-assisted outdoor bevvying will continue until ‘at least 30 September 2021’.
