SPORTS ROUND-UP

Submitted by Editor on

Nicola Barclay, Active Schools Co-ordinator, brings the latest sports news and results from Drummond.

Basketball

Seniors v Staff, 2012

Once again, the senior students failed to beat a staff team in this annual event to raise money for Children In Need. The seniors came very close, but a late flurry from the staff ensured a 17–14 victory.

Well done to all who participated and a special mention to Ms Lewis for her fantastic organisation of this event. Over £200 was raised.

S1/2

Coached by ex-pupil Callum Vardy, the team played their first competitive game when they  welcomed a side from Trinity Academy. Drummond came out on top with a narrow 32–24 win!

S3/4 Boys

The team had their first game of the season when they participated in an Active Schools Friendly Afternoon up at Castlebrae CHS along with teams from Liberton and Castlebrae.

Drummond lost 3–2 to Castlebrae and drew 4–4 with Liberton.

The behaviour and sportsmanship were first class from all the schools. We hope to make the event a regular fixture in order to give this age group in small schools a chance to take part in league games.

Girls

Ronaigh Douglas (S3) was selected to represent South East Scotland in the inter-area championships last month.

Drummond Girls Football Team took part in their second schools football festival. Again they did extremely well, winning the tournament and remaining unbeaten in their six games so far.

Results: 1–1 v Leith Academy; 1–0 v Craigroyston; 3–0 v Firhill.

It’s been great to see the girls so enthusiastic about their participation in the football.

The S3 pupils involved were: Megan Bryce, Ronaigh Douglas, Rebecca Moffat, Leila Subasic. From S1: Katherine Dempsie, Eilidh Douglas, Eduarda Isbrana, Denim Johnston, Olivia McLean, Freya o'brien, Colette Thomson.
