WATER OF LEITH – THE MORNING AFTER THE NIGHT BEFORE

The level of the Water of Leith has dropped considerably since we videoed it last night but remains higher than we’ve have seen it for many years. 

 

More heavy rain is forecast for this evening and on Sunday.

 

Spurtle went to investigate the stretch between the Stockbridge Colonies and Bonnington early this morning.

 

We found the Bell Place footbridge closed and boarded. 

 

Downstream at Canonmills, the railings – which had been submerged overnight – were now visible again …

and the grey pipe clear of the water. Those marks on the restaurant terrace are reflections of foam on the river surface, not evidence of damage.

You can see how far the water has dropped by the trace left behind on the wall of 1–6 Canonmills Bridge.

Some Brandon Terrace residents have been better prepared for wet weather than others.

Warriston Road is closed between Boat Green and Logie Green Road.

Flood gates closed.

Further on, the southern bank has disappeared but the flood wall has held firm.

It’s been a long night in St Mark’s Park. The Gormley is having a lie-down.

The approach to Redbraes is not as easy as it looks …

but the roar of the water over the weir is worth experiencing. Horticulture in these conditions can be problematic.
