We contacted CCG for comment on 19 February. Their response arrived just after the paper had gone to press 5 days later.

 

In CCG’s reply on 24 February, a named representative of the company acknowledged human error as the reason for the 2-month delay in registering CCG as a Considerate Constructor at the Powderhall site.

As you read this, advance copies of the March Spurtle are already spreading across the barony like potholes fleeing a Council roadmender in advance of the budget deadline.

 

Issue 359 starts with news of an appeal, continues with calls for better signage, and concludes with a dodo and voters on floaters.

The ‘coffee cave’ phenomenon – why Books n’ Cups works

Books n’ Cups, on Raeburn Place in Stockbridge, is consistently busy. This success puzzles even some regular customers. 

 

Lacking the elegant Scandi minimalism of Edinburgh’s coffee elite, the space, with its exposed brickwork, leather seating and general ‘homely’ feel, is reminiscent of a pre-Third Wave ‘coffee cave’ circa 2005.

The second of 2 pre-application consultations was held yesterday afternoon to discuss the future of Centrum and BUPA Houses at 108–16 Dundas Street.

 

Dakota Hotels proposes adapting a previously consented plan for housing here (Issue 325) to create a 143-bedroom hotel (maximum occupancy c.250 people).
