Leith Walk Police Box celebrates ten years of pop-ups this year, writes owner Monty Roy.
The box launched in February 2015 with pop-ups by local Leith-based artist and photographer Anjila Wilson and Edinburgh Tool Library, the UK's first such Typesharing resource.
Over the last decade, the box has helped several well-known Edinburgh businesses, organisations and charities to establish themselves, including Typewronger Books, the Invisible Cities walking tours and CalaCala food. Plus it's been a two-seater cinema, public consultation and art exhibition space.
The business has survived the pandemic lockdown and the tramworks on Leith Walk.
We are thrilled to be celebrating ten years of helping business start-ups to fly, thanks to our fantastic, supportive local community.
This month, the box pop-ups include ORAgen Fables – Storytelling and AI (Thursday 13 March) with the DECaDE team from Edinburgh University and a police box museum with Edinburgh and Lothians Police Historical Society (Wednesday 19 March).
The annual Fake Fringe free live performance event will be held on Saturday 16 August.
